Design challenge: What is the future of mobility? What could it look like and who gets to define it?
Client: An insurance company is interested in breaking into the autonomous vehicle space in 3-5 years.
Prompt: Design a digital solution and define the strategic imperative for the client to invest in it.
Outcome: This was an individual design challenge that I completed over the course of one week. I believe in a future where the benefits of autonomous vehicles can be safe and accessible to everyone. I designed AVID, an app that allows riders to build a community when they ride. I imagined a future where autonomous vehicles are shared and electric based on studies by BCG.
problem
How might we create a platform so that shared AV rides feel safe and comfortable?
And keep what we love the most about our commutes?

INITIAL SKETCHES
Users want to be able to request rides and feel a sense of safety and security thoughout their ride experience.
Crucially, the app needs to be able to let users give feedback on the ride they just completed.

MEET AVID:
HOW IT WORKS
A platform for multiple AV rideshares
Connects users to other AVID riders with that are verified across multiple AV ride share platforms
A user-verified network
Users verify each other when they ride together. More verifications means more information on the rider and their “ride style.”
HERE’S HOW AVID WOULD HELP
Summary
As a designer imagining a future world with shared and autonomous mobility, I want to ensure that everyone feels safe and comfortable during their commutes. In a world where we could potentially be increasingly isolated with custom experiences that instantly cater to our every need, I wanted to imagine ways that people can create communities in new, unexpected places.
