Project Overview:

The “Ticket Price of Mobility” is a data visualization project that presents the user with a snapshot of our global infrastructure. A map of the world is presented, showing every city, airport, road, railroad, river and shipping route. The pervasive reach of globalization seemingly touches every corner of the world.

However, the user is then presented with the sections of the world that have been left behind in the rush towards global connectivity. To understand the monetary and psychological price of mobility,  users are presented with a “ticket” for a each country that they select. The “ticket” shows how much money they would have to spend, how many hours they would need to travel and the density of roads in relation to that country’s population. The user is also informed of safety warnings (if there are any), based on the Global Peace Index.

The visualization also brings up the questions:

Who is mobility created for? Are it's benefits evenly distributed? And what happens if you cannot access it?
